code of conduct

Awareness, for us, means being attentive to situations in which a person’s boundaries and sense of safety are being crossed. We want to engage with individual boundaries and needs in an attentive and sensitive way. We do not tolerate discriminatory or inappropriate behavior. Solidarity comes first for us. If you feel uncomfortable, for whatever reason, feel free to reach out to the organizing team at any time (recognizable by the blue wristband).

We want to establish a set of guidelines for how we treat each other at jams and other events. Please take these guidelines seriously and follow them so that we can all enjoy the best possible evenings and create lasting memories. Considerate and respectful interaction is therefore important to us.

• Respect individual boundaries: Only yes means yes! No always means no! Act according to the principle of consent.
• The power of definition always lies with those affected. The affected person defines for themselves when and what form of violence or discrimination they have experienced. This definition is taken seriously and is not called into question.
• The use or threat of psychological and physical violence will not be tolerated.
• Forms of discrimination, sexism, or racism will not be tolerated in any way.
• Filming and photography is not permitted without the consent of the person being photographed.
• Audio recordings are generally permitted within the jam space. If an event is being fully recorded with microphones, both guests and organizers are obligated to make this clearly known.
• Look out for one another and check in with others to see if they are doing okay.
• An instrument is always played by one person at a time. If you want to play an instrument together with someone, ask before joining in.
• Pass the instrument on. There is only a limited number of them and everyone wants a turn.
• Always assume that the other person is playing at your level and/or already knows what they are doing. Ask first whether someone needs help before offering it unsolicited.
• Always keep your criticism constructive and refrain from passive-aggressive behavior.
• The collective experience comes first at jam sessions. Listen to each other, be considerate of others, and sometimes take a step back. Ego trips destroy the shared experience.
• The open consumption of illegal drugs is prohibited regardless, including within the music room.

If you feel uncomfortable, for whatever reason, feel free to reach out to the organizing team at any time (recognizable by the blue wristband).
